1987: Anti-drug PSA makes Generation X hungry

DOWNEY, NY – A public service announcement intended to discourage the use of drugs instead gave a generation of television viewers the munchies.

“I’m not saying drugs are okay, but let’s be real. That ad made me want some eggs real bad,” said Phillip Curran, 35, who was in high school when the ad aired. “I can smell them cooking even now, just thinking about that ad.”

Curran experimented with marijuana in the 1990s while in college, but decided it was “not [his] thing.” He advises his children accordingly, telling them to be very cautious about drugs.

He is presently in recovery from prescription opioid abuse after suffering a torn ligament.
